The main goal of the Skilled Visa Program Advisory Board is to provide advice and professional support to the Migration Institute of Australia (MIA) on the Skilled Visa Program. The board is committed to enhancing understanding, evaluating policies, and ensuring effective strategies within the context of the Skilled Visa Program.

The Skilled Visa Program Advisory Board will advise the Migration Institute of Australia on various aspects related to the Skilled Visa Program such as policy development, regulatory changes, application processes, and related issues. Specifically, the board will:

  • Serve as an advisory board on policy, legal, and practical issues related to the Skilled Visa Program, assisting in decision-making and policy formation processes of the Migration Institute of Australia.
  • Present perspectives and insights on issues related to Skilled Visas, ensuring comprehensive understanding of ongoing issues.
  • Evaluate and provide feedback on the quality, scope, and limitations of research conducted by or for the Migration Institute of Australia related to the Skilled Visa Program.
  • Provide guidance on specific aspects of proposals within the Skilled Visa Program.
  • Address queries raised by the Migration Institute of Australia based on professional insights.
  • Support the MIA in building and maintaining relationships with external research organizations, migration experts, and stakeholders related to the Skilled Visa Program.

UPDATE ON THE PROCESSING TIMES FOR VISA SUBCLASS 188/888 - MAY 3, 2024

Although the Minister has not yet provided an official response, we have observed significant positive changes in the processing times for subclass 188 visa applications, indicating a considerable acceleration in the approval process. Some of our clients have received requests for more information (RFIs) and successfully obtained their subclass 188 visas after a long waiting period.

AUSTRALIA HAS TRIPLED THE FIRB FEE FOR FOREIGNERS PURCHASING EXISTING HOMES
According to the latest announcement from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), foreign investors (those who do not hold Australian residency or citizenship) are now required to pay triple the previous amount for the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB) registration fee when purchasing existing residential properties on the secondary market. However, the FIRB fee for foreign investors purchasing new and unused properties remains unchanged.
